Machine Marbling - (2021-ongoing)

Using the traditional practice of marbling combined with algorithmic approaches applied through automated drawing machines. Marbling was commonly used in in book covers with strong and colorful patterns. The name comes for the patterns that often resemble marble stone. Due to its very abstract and often formless finish it was never considered a very successful style. With computer based graphics and high quality printing the art of Marbling struggled to survive (it's currently catgeorised as a endangered craft: https://heritagecrafts.org.uk/paper-marbling/).

I'm interested in taking this material based form and exploring what machines can add to this tradition, using machine precision and programming code based simulations.

Victoria Hall has been of particular inspiration with her Marbling practice: https://www.norfolkcontemporarycraft.co.uk/victoria-hall-decorated-paper
